We created our Casa LeonArt guesthouse/pousada to offer more individual sunshine holidays for men who prefer not to be 'part of the crowd' who head south to the touristy Algarve. The central area of Portugal is perfect for the traveler who seeks somewhere individual where YOU decide your holiday, so much so that many of our guests come back every year. We offer quality accommodation, peaceful surroundings, and individual attention, in a stunningly beautiful rural location of forests and vineyards. We are in a tiny Portuguese hill village with the charm of the 1950s, between the coast to the west, and the Serra d'Estrella mountains to the east. You can create your perfect holiday by mixing days by the pool with exploring one of the most unspoilt parts of Europe. A stay here costs up to half that of similar guesthouses in Greece, Spain, Italy or the Canary Islands. And no long flights, as we are less than 2 hours from Britain and most western European cities, so even just a week is easy.

LOCATION: We are near Portugal's third largest city, Coimbra, which dates back over 1000 years, and Roman Conimbriga (79AD to 800AD). Porto airport is nearest, (70 minutes), Lisbon is 2-3 hours, or there are fast modern trains to get you to Coimbra and then a taxi ride here. Roads here are quiet, yet modern highways lead here from every direction. A car is essential to see our area, but some guests catch a taxi from Coimbra 'B' railway station to get here and just laze by the pool all holiday!
SUN: We have hot sunny days May to mid-October, on average 6 to 9 hours a day, and often go 30-40 days with no rain. The private walled garden is clothing optional as is the 10 by 4 metre pool. It gets sun until early evening and has two large sunbathing areas You can also keep cool in the shade of the 20 metre long arcade, a peaceful place to be, or relax in the pergolas in the Tree & Flower garden.
ACCOMODATION: All our rooms are individual and tasteful and have private facilities. There are 2 suites in the house (Dourada and Scarlett) and the smaller (but popular) Casa Borboleta (Butterfly House) in the garden, The suites have air-conditioning and French windows onto the long terrace with views over fields and forests. Casa Borboleta is naturally cool and overlooks the garden and pool just 10 seconds away. A large al fresco breakfast (pequeno-almoço) is served daily and included in the rate. Guests also have a lounge in the house with satellite tv and a vast collection of films on DVD. SIGHT-SEEING: Casa LeonArt is a good base from which to explore un touristy central Portugal - see the 'local places' button (left) for the many areas just a short drive away, most unspoilt by commercial tourism. We took all the pictures as we have enjoyed all these places so can recommend ones you might like.
There is much to tempt you to tour but if you stay poolside we serve tea, coffee and drinks anytime, even IN the pool in plastic glasses! We can provide cold lunches or full evening dinners on the arcade. Between us we speak Portuguese, German, and of course English. We are a non smoking guesthouse but there are smoker's areas outdoors. We are happy to cater for any special needs you have, please just ask when you book. You can combine a visit here with a stay in Lisbon or Porto, or it would be easy just to relax and stay at Casa LeonArt all your holiday - most of our guests tell us they wish they had booked for longer!
