Advice on AIRPORTS Summer 2011
British travellers have a choice of 2 airports, depending on where you are flying from you can check flights to these two Portuguese airports:
-
Porto (Oporto) airport - depending on time of day is just an 80 to 100 minute drive to Casa LeonArt on mainly modern roads. Alternatively a VERY fast modern train can get you from Porto to our nearest city Coimbra in under an hour, and you can hire a car in Coimbra (we'll give you details)
- Lisbon (Lisboa) airport is 2 to 3 hours drive, again mainly on fast modern roads. It is perfect for a 2 centre holiday ~ lively in Lisbon, calming at Casa LeonArt!
Flights to PORTO
TAP (Portugese Airlines) from London Gatwick or London Heathrow
RyanAir from Liverpool or Stanstead
EasyJet from London Gatwick
Flights to LISBON
EasyJet from Bristol, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Luton, London Gatwick
British Airways from Heathrow
TAP (Portugese airlines) from London Gatwick, London Heathrow, Manchester, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow
Aer Lingus from Dublin or Cork
BMI from Manchester
There are flights to Porto or Lisbon from many European cities, check with your local travel agent.
ADVICE : if you are landing near dusk we recommend staying the night at Porto or Lisbon and getting your hire car next day.
Try the Portuguese national airline TAP

For flights from, or connecting via the United States - TAP (and their partners) fly direct to Porto which is our nearest airport
TOURING - You could easily spend a week with us, or if
you have 2 weeks, combine it with a week in Coimbra, or the north around
Porto, or Lisbon in the South.
ROADS - You definitely need a car to holiday here. Whether
you choose to stay at Casa LeonArt or elsewhere in Portugal the good news
is that most roads were recently brought up to a good standard - the bad
news is that Portuguese drivers are rather fast and erratic, so caution
is always necessary.
WATER - The Serra d'Estrella and Lousa are huge granite
mountains so the water is pure and completely drinkable.
FOOD - Even more good news, a meal for 2 of good pork
or beef with a bottle of wine starts at around 15 euros - we've yet to
see a Starbucks (hurrah) and 2 good coffees are at a local coffee shop
are under 2 Euros! It's worth noting that this area is NOT ideal for vegetarians.
WINTER BREAKS -
November through February
We still often have warm sunny days, there is rarely even a frost, but
it is also the wettest season.
Please contact us for rates if you fancy a 'winter' break to ‘get away’
from life’s pressures. If you are a creative person who needs time
and space to think and work this is the perfect environment: once we light
our wood burning stoves you’ll feel at home. We can provide breakfast and
dinner. There are rural hill walks just one minute from our door, and we
do just that even on Christmas Day!
